Keurig K Cup “Single Cup” Coffee Makers (Model Comparison)
Keurig K Cup “Single Cup” Coffee Makers (Model Comparison)

If you're looking for a Keurig K Cup single cup coffee maker but don't know which of their five models is for you, don't worry. We'll help you decide here.

Keurig K Cup “Single Cup” Coffee Makers

Coffee is a big part of most people’s lives. The boost you get in the morning just seems to make the rest of the day right. But the problem is that brewing a pot of coffee for one person takes time and wastes coffee – enter the single cup coffee maker…

Hot Ten Reviews looked at 10 different single cup coffee maker lines and came to the conclusion that the Keurig is the best in class. The problem is that Keurig does not make just one, but five wonderful single cup coffee makers: the Classic Series which offers the K15 and the K55 and the Plus Series which offers the K250, K475 and the K575. So we thought we’d make it easy for you to choose the coffee machine that is best for you.

Below we compare and contrast the five Keurigs by attribute, with the following being the most important.

  • Size of water reservoir – by definition, single cup coffee makers don’t need to store a lot of water, but it would be nice it they would. The reason is that a person buys a single cup coffee maker for speed and convenience. It is more speedy and convenient for the user to fill up the water reserve once in a while rather than every time.
  • Coffee cup brew sizes (in ounces) – if you used to purchase a giant coffee at 7-Eleven, then you want a Keurig that can brew mug sized coffee volume. Several do but several only brew only up to 10 ounces. We tell you which is which below.
  • Different size pod capability for cups, mugs and carafe brews – along with brew size you actually need the correct amount of coffee grounds to ensure that the coffee tastes good and strong. This means you need “cup pods,” for average sized coffee, “mug pods” for large cups of coffee and “carafe pods” for jumbo sized coffee. Some Keurig models accept different sized pods some only take single cup sized “cup pods.”
  • Strength control – Not everyone likes a strong cup of coffee. The opposite is also true. Being able to control the coffee strength makes the system even better.
  • Temperature control – For the coffee purist, you can brew coffee in many variations of “hot.” Some like their coffee piping hot, others like it “just north of warm.” If you want that level of precision, we have the single cup maker for you.
  • Hot water on demand – Like something hot besides coffee? One of the single cup pros will actually deliver just hot water. Great for tea, or the newest trend – hot water and lemon.
  • Size of touch display – admittedly having a Keurig K Cup Coffee Maker with an extra large display has its benefit – particularly if it’s early in the morning and you can’t find your glasses. Displays come in three sizes depending on the model.

The last feature, quality of coffee, is consistent throughout each unit. This largely depends on the cleanliness of water and the type of pod being used. For the best water we recommend running your H20 through a Brita Water Filter System and storing it in the Brita Carafe until use. Fortunately the pods themselves come from many makers from Starbucks to Green Mountain Coffee. With quality inputs and a quality system like the Keurig the only thing that remains is choosing a single cup coffee maker that offers the features that are right for you.

We love the K250 Brewer. With a tri pod – single cup, mug or carafe option, this K-cup brews great coffee and will allow you to swap out “pods” for different sized brews. We also love the strength control because some like their coffee strong, others do not.

Keurig nailed it with the K575 Brewer. What we really like about this model is that it has temperature control. Coffee officianados know that “very hot” water temperature gives the coffee a little extra flavor, which in turn makes the Keurig crank out brew like a Barista! The 80-ounce water well and extra large display helps ease the “early morning fog.”
