Amazing

If you’re like me, having a quiet hair dryer is not just good for your morning Zen, it’s also good for those sleeping in your home. For such a small unit, a hair dryer is one of the loudest appliances in the house, and it tends to really annoy those that are still snoozing if they are within earshot when the unit is blazing away.
The fact is, until a few years ago, “low noise” was not a consideration for a hair dryer. From salons to home bathrooms, people just tried to pretend that the taxing sound didn’t exist. Selection was about styling well, drying fast, and not burning out too quickly. That was then, this is now. Today, the top rated quiet hair dryers can do all of that and start your morning routine whisper-quiet. At a price that even a non-hair stylist will love. Enter the world’s quietest hair dryers.

Shown below are our individual quiet hair dryer reviews. We have listed what we believe to be the 10 quietest units in the world. Each has something a little different to offer but each delivers it with significantly lower noise that a typical unit. We even show you the “decibel rating” on the unit and give you a chart so that you can understand just how much noise you are saving, unit by unit.

Izutech TRX4000 Salon Dryer-44 (Rating 9.5 out of 10)

What is a decibel (“dB”)?

A decibel is a measure of sound intensity (we’ll just define is as “noise” for this article to make things easier). Its abbreviation is dB and we will use that throughout this article. There is a lot of confusion about what a change in dB means, so in non-scientific terms: for every 10-decibel increase, the sound intensity level doubles. As you can see on the chart on the right, a whisper is about 30 decibels, a normal conversation is about 63 dB and a dial tone is about 80 db. Any prolonged sound above about 85-90 dB starts to become uncomfortable for many people.

What we measure? We rated the seven measures described below on a scale of 1 to 10 and double weighted “sound intensity” since this is the focus of this review. Truth be told, the winning blow dryer would still have taken then number one spot even if we had not double weighted it on sound given its dominance in other features. What are all the measures?

Hot Ten Reviews Quiet Hair Dryer Ratings

#1, Izutech TRX4000 Salon Dryer-44 (Rating 9.50)
Approximate Price – $90

  • Noise: 62 dB (about the same as a normal conversation)
  • Watts: 2000
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 1.3 pounds
  • Warranty: 10-years

This is a new-to-market hair dryer that is finding its way into hair salons all over the world. The unit is quiet – you can have a normal tone conversation while blow drying your hair. Importantly, it has power. This 2000-watt hair dryer is the most powerful of the group of 10. it is lightweight, weighing in at a measly 1.3 pounds and it comes with a 10-year warranty. These features are why the Izutech is our #1 choice and it would still be #1 even if we didn’t double weight the sound.

#2, Exit Hair Dryer (Rating 9.06)
Approximate Price $90

  • Noise: 68dB (a little louder than a normal conversation)
  • Watts: 1700
  • Number of Speeds: 3
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 1 pound
  • Warranty: 1-year

This hair-dryer is a low noise unit that has something we don’t see very often – three speeds – most are two. We also like the feather weight one-pound design. 1700 watts is strong enough to get the job done quickly for most everyone and the hair dryer is priced quite well.

#3, MHU Professional Salon Grade Low Noise Ionic Ceramic Ac Infrared Heat Hair Dryer (Rating 8.88)
Approximate Price $60

  • Noise: 78dB (a little less than a phone dial tone)
  • Watts: 1875
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 1.5 pounds
  • Warranty: 1 year

This price-savvy unit packs a lot of power. The 1875-watt hair dryer is more than enough for just about everyone. It weighs in a just 1.5 pounds, comes with two speeds and three heat settings and an industry standard 1-year warranty. Importantly, it is reasonably quiet – a little less loud than a dial tone.

#4, Ion Whisper Quiet Lite Hair Dryer (Rating 8.88)
Approximate Price $65

  • Noise 76dB (less than a phone dial tone)
  • Watts: 1875
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 4
  • Weight: 1.3 pounds
  • Warranty: 1 year

This unit takes the number four spot on our list of quiet hairdryers. It’s features and noise level are almost identical as the MHU Professional Salon Grade unit above, but the price point is slightly more expensive – hence the #4 position. It also comes with four heat settings instead of 3, but we felt that at some point it becomes academic, because the level of precision is not needed and overly complicates things, so we gave very little weight to the fourth setting. Still, it’s quiet, powerful, light and comes with a one-year warranty, so what’s not to like???

#5, Xlinder 1875-Watt Professional Salon Hair Dryer (Rating 8.75)
Approximate Price $50

  • Noise: 76dB
  • Watts: 1875
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 1.3 pounds
  • Warranty: 1 year

Number five on our list of quiet hair dryers is the Xlinder. Coming in at 76 decibels, this unit delivers, and at half the sound level of a normal blow dryer. The weight is great, the wattage is powerful and it has market standard speeds and heat settings. We also like the price. All good here…

#6, Centrix Q-Zone Dryer (Rating 8.38)
Approximate Price $110

  • Noise: 72 dB (a little louder than normal conversation)
  • Watts: 1500
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 1.5 pounds
  • Warranty: 1-year

This quiet hair dryer is great on noise control, but a little light on power. 1500 watts is on the lower end of what we consider acceptable. Still 1500-watt hair-dryers do represent most of the units sold in the market, so they get the job done. The weight is good, the warranty is fine, and the number of speed and heat settings are standard. However, we feel this unit is expensive for the features you get.

#7, Quietest Professional Hair Dryer (Rating 8.38)
Approximate Price $100

  • Noise: 74dB
  • Watts: 1500
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 2 pounds
  • Warranty: 1-Year

This low noise unit is reasonably standard in terms of features: two speeds, three heat settings and a 1-year warranty. We think the weight is a little high and wattage a little low, but not so off that you would not consider this quiet hair dryer if you like the other features, or simply like the design.

#8, Twin Turbo Power 2800 Italian Professional Hair Blow Dryer (Rating 8.19)
Approximate Price $110

  • Noise: 80dB
  • Watts: 2800 (sprints) / 1760 (normal)
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 4
  • Weight: 2 pounds
  • Warranty: 1 year

We like the turbo charged power feature of this (somewhat) quiet hair-dryer. It maxes out at 2800 watts but won’t stay there for long, so if you want to blast the hair for a few seconds to get the water out, then move to a more normal output, then this unit may be for you. It is quiet-ish, but 80 dB is not the same as a as 62 dB (our #1 choice), in fact it produces almost four times the sound output (as stated above sound intensity doubles ever 10 decibel increase). Still, it is less noisy than most hair-dryers; however, you would by this one for the power, not the noise reduction, because there are others that are far better in that regard.

#9, BIO IONIC Whisper Light Pro-Dryer (Rating 8.13)
Approximate Price $200

  • Noise: 72 dB
  • Watts: 1400
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 2.1 pounds
  • Warranty: 5-year warranty

Coming in at 72dB, this is a solid quiet blow dryer, but you are really paying up for this unit. We think the speeds and settings are appropriate and the warranty is outstanding, but at 2.1 pounds this hair-dryer might get a little heavy if you have a lot of hair to dry. The wattage is also on the lower end, so it could take longer than expected to get the job done.

#10, LumaBella Pure Power Dryer (Rating 7.75)
Approximate Price $180

  • Noise: 85 dB (about the same noise as city traffic, inside the car)
  • Watts: 1875
  • Number of Speeds: 2
  • Number of Heat Settings: 3
  • Weight: 2 pounds
  • Warranty: 1 year

The final unit on our list of quiet hair dryers is the LumaBella. It is a solid unit, but it is somewhat expensive for the features that come with it. The noise output is 85 dB – more than four times that of the #1 choice, Izutech TRX4000. Still, 85 dB is about 75% the noise of normal blow dryers. Watts are strong at 1875 and the number of speeds and settings are standard, as is the 1-year warranty. It’s a little heavy, but given the watts, your hair should dry a little faster, so we think this is probably fine for most people.

So, there you have it, Hot Ten Review’s top rated quiet hair dryers. These 10 are the quietest hair dryers in the world, in our considered opinion. Overall, we recommend the Izutech, but if some of the other features are more important than sound and power, then one of the other nine might be more appropriate for you.
